It is such a great honor to be part of the Rotary Club. Not everything is lost in this life of mine, filled with self-deprecation and an idiotic sense of humor. Some of the activities I stick my nose into are actually making a difference in the world. And this sort of thing only happens when I surround myself with amazing people from whom I get to learn how it feels to be a decent human being.
Or just a human being.
Last Thursday, October 24th, I had a couple of drinks with the Rotarians on what we in Rotary dubbed World Polio Day. Give me an excuse to drink, and I am on it!
On this day, thousands of Rotary clubs around the world held activities to recognize our progress in the global fight to end polio. Thanks to this constant and diligent work, Rotary has reduced 99.9 percent cases of polio worldwide since 1988. And as you can see, there is still a minuscule percentage that needs to be addressed. Every cent counts, and now, thanks to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, your contribution will be tripled!
Yes! Somehow that makes me happier than a shot Don Julio.
